Family loses everything after Spring Hill house fire
SUMMARY: A Spring Hill family lost everything after their two-story home caught fire Tuesday afternoon amid hot, gusty conditions. A 21-year-old neighbor noticed smoke and urgently alerted the couple, helping them escape safely with only the clothes they wore. Fire crews arrived quickly but battled challenges like a collapsed roof, interior stairwell damage, and extreme heat. Assistance came from neighboring counties as firefighters worked through dangerous conditions, with some sustaining injuries and heat exhaustion. Despite their efforts, the house was a total loss. Fire investigators are still determining the exact cause of the blaze.

Tennessee family receiving $100K settlement over state’s school threat law
SUMMARY: A Chattanooga school agreed to pay \$100,000 to the family of an 11-year-old autistic student charged with a felony under Tennessee’s new threats of mass violence law. The child responded “Yeah” when asked if another student would blow up the school, but had no intent or awareness of a real threat. The school failed to conduct a required threat assessment before charging the student. The settlement includes staff training on handling similar cases. Advocates emphasize the need for balanced policies that protect all students while fairly assessing the seriousness of threats, especially for those with disabilities.

State trooper dashcam video shows deadly end to 50-mile police chase
SUMMARY: Arkansas State Police dashcam footage reveals a deadly 50-mile chase on March 28 involving 36-year-old Rale Murphy of Memphis. Eleven troopers participated, with one trooper performing a tactical vehicle intervention that resulted in his cruiser rolling but no serious injuries. The pursuit ended in Kittenden County, where officers found Murphy and a 39-year-old woman in the SUV. Despite emergency efforts captured on dashcam, Murphy died the next day. He had active warrants for evading arrest and sex offender registry violations and was on probation for aggravated assault. The footage highlights three fatal pursuits by ASP in 30 days.

Arkansas State Police have not been shy about their pursuit policy. In March, Col. Mike Hagar told the public his troopers have been instructed to put drivers who attempt to flee “in a ditch.”
After those remarks, the agency had three fatal crashes in the weeks that followed. Col. Hagar stood by his statements when FOX13 Investigates sat down with him in April.
In dashcam video obtained by FOX13 Investigates, one of those fatal crashes from March is shown from beginning to end. The records show more than 10 troopers involved, either in the pursuit or in the aftermath of the crash. Tennessee hemp retailer uprooting store over new legislation
SUMMARY: Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a bill banning smokable hemp flower, including products with more than 0.3% THCA, which converts to THC when burned. Retailers like Ben Whitelaw, owner of The Flower Shop in Chattanooga, say the bill will force them out of business or out of state, as most of their products will be banned. Lawmakers argue the legislation regulates the “Wild West” hemp industry for consumer protection and transfers oversight to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Whitelaw believes the bill aims to benefit the alcohol industry. The law takes effect January 1, 2026, with potential legal challenges anticipated.
