CBS News Miami Special Report: FHP investigation shuts down I-95 during heavy rain
SUMMARY: CBS News Miami reports that southbound I-95 near the Dolphin Expressway was shut down due to a Florida Highway Patrol investigation of a fatal pedestrian crash from Tuesday night. The closure, just south of the 836 interchange near Northwest 8th Street, has caused significant traffic delays stretching to 79th Street. NASA identifies newly discovered object as an interstellar comet that will keep a safe distance
SUMMARY: NASA has discovered a new interstellar comet, designated 3I/Atlas, detected with the Atlas telescope in Chile. This marks the third known interstellar object passing through our solar system. Currently about 416 million miles from the sun near Jupiter, the comet will come closest to the sun in October, passing safely between Mars and Earth. Astronomers worldwide are monitoring it to study its size and shape. It will be visible through September and again in December. Previous interstellar visitors include ‘Oumuamua, found in 2017, and comet 21/Borisov, discovered in 2019. The new comet poses no threat to Earth.

City of St. Augustine files eminent domain lawsuit against property owners amid flood mitigation project dispute
SUMMARY: The City of St. Augustine has filed an eminent domain lawsuit against owners of two properties near Lincolnville to acquire land for the Lake Maria Sanchez Flood Mitigation and Drainage Improvements Project. Funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the project aims to reduce flooding in about 200 acres of the city’s historic downtown. Planned upgrades include enhancing stormwater systems on Granada, Cordova, and Bridge Streets, building a new pump station and flood wall near the properties, and installing one-way tide check valves.
