Evening Forecast 6/21/2025
SUMMARY: The first official weekend of summer brings hot, humid weather with heat indices near or above 100. High pressure creates a “hot dome,” keeping temperatures in the 90s and humidity oppressive across much of the region for the next week. Today’s highs reached around 89-90 degrees in central Kentucky, with slightly cooler temperatures in the east. Overnight lows will mostly stay in the lower 70s, cooler in southeastern Kentucky. Rain chances are minimal, with only isolated showers possible later in the week. Sunny skies, high UV levels, and consistent heat will continue, so sunscreen and hydration are advised.

More hot and humid days ahead
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Eric Zernich reports more hot and humid days ahead for Louisville, with temperatures rising to the mid-90s through the week but staying below record highs. Despite the heat dome building and heat indices reaching 102-104, Louisville remains just under the National Weather Service’s heat advisory threshold requiring a heat index of 105 for several hours. Nearby areas, including southern Indiana and parts of the Great Lakes region, have heat advisories. Nights remain warm and muggy, with lows around 77°F. A few isolated afternoon showers may occur, but overall expect a persistent stretch of hot, humid, mostly sunny weather requiring hydration and cooling precautions.

Getting very hot and humid this weekend
SUMMARY: This weekend will be very hot and humid, with temperatures rising from 93°F on Saturday to 97°F by Tuesday. While Louisville won’t have a heat advisory, nearby counties and parts of Indiana will, some even reaching excessive heat warnings with temperatures near 100°F. A strong upper-level high pressure is causing a heat dome over much of the central and eastern U.S., pushing cool air into Canada and trapping the heat here. Humidity will make it feel hotter, so staying hydrated, using sunblock, and wearing light clothing is essential. Events like the Saint Matthews Summer Fest will be warm and muggy, continuing through next week.
