Published

on

www.wsav.com – Genevieve Lund – 2025-07-10 05:44:00

SUMMARY: The Savannah City Council is debating new rules to lower the maximum temperature for operating horse-drawn carriages to improve animal welfare. Proposed changes include lowering limits by 10 degrees and using more accurate heat measurements, such as a wet bulb calculator and monitoring horses’ internal temperatures. Supporters cite science-backed animal safety, while carriage operators warn lower limits could threaten their business, especially during warmer months. The industry brings in about \$300,000 annually. The council meeting will decide on new temperature thresholds ranging from 85 to 92 degrees.
