SUMMARY: The City of Huntsville, Alabama, has implemented speed limit adjustments to enhance roadway safety. On Balch Road, a two-mile segment from U.S. Highway 72 to Capshaw Road, the speed limit has been reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph. This change aligns the speed limit with other sections of Balch Road under Madison County jurisdiction. Additionally, at the eastern end of Interstate 565, where the road continues as U.S. Highway 72, the Alabama Department of Transportation has raised the speed limit from 50 mph to 55 mph over a 3.6-mile stretch to the city limits at Martinson Boulevard. These modifications are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure safety and consistency across its traffic corridors, as noted by Traffic Engineering Director Nick Nene.
