SUMMARY: Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is leading the effort to reverse actions taken against military service members impacted by the Department of Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Cruz introduced the AMERICANS Act of 2025, which includes provisions to reinstate service members who were discharged or demoted due to the mandate. The bill would provide backdated retirement pay, restore rank, compensate for lost pay, and change discharges from general to honorable if related solely to vaccine status. The bill also mandates the DOD to enforce a vaccine exemption process and ensure equal treatment for non-vaccinated service members.

SUMMARY: The U.S. launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Esfahan—joining Israel’s war against Iran’s nuclear program. President Trump declared the sites “completely and fully obliterated” without independent verification and warned of more strikes if Iran retaliates. Israel sounded missile alerts amid ongoing Iranian barrages. The U.S. used bunker-buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles in the first combat use of the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator. The conflict risks escalating regionally despite Trump’s reluctance to send ground troops.

Madhani reported from Morristown, N.J. Rising reported from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Associated Press writers Nasser Karimi in Iran; Mehmet Guzel in Istanbul; Josef Federman in Jerusalem; Samy Magdy in Cairo; Matthew Lee and Josh Boak in Washington; and Farnoush Amiri and Jon Gambrell in Dubai contributed to this report.
