Counting the potential toll of Trump’s tariffs on major Asian economies

Published

SUMMARY: U.S. President Donald Trump’s escalated trade war poses challenges for Asian economies reliant on exports. His tariffs, aimed at reshoring U.S. manufacturing, impact trade agreements and increase uncertainty. China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, and India all face consequences. China’s EV exports and U.S. LNG imports are hit, Japan’s auto sector is threatened, and Taiwan, Korea, and Vietnam may invest more in U.S. factories. India, with strong pharmaceutical exports, is also vulnerable. Though some companies are shifting production out of China, the unpredictability of U.S. policy keeps many cautious. Tariff hikes continue reshaping global trade and economic strategies across Asia.

www.youtube.com – FOX 35 Orlando – 2025-09-10 06:12:47

SUMMARY: A man accused of fatally stabbing a Ukrainian refugee on a North Carolina train faces federal charges that could include the death penalty. The brutal attack, caught on disturbing video, has sparked national outrage and a debate on crime and public safety. Despite the suspect’s 14 prior arrests, he was repeatedly released, raising concerns about the criminal justice system, especially regarding mental competency and repeat offenders. Charlotte’s mayor urged people not to share the graphic footage. This incident highlights issues in public transportation security and is fueling ongoing discussions at the national level about crime and law enforcement policies.

Federal authorities announced Tuesday that Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., the suspect in the stabbing death of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a North Carolina train, has been federally charged with one count of committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system. Attorney General Pam Bondi said that the DOJ will seek the maximum penalty for Brown, saying that the Aug. 22 attack was a “direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people.”

SUMMARY: A Cocoa Beach man, Richard Dunlap, lost $2.5 million in a cryptocurrency investment scam that began with a Facebook friend request from a stranger. After months of messaging and moving to WhatsApp, the scammers convinced him to invest, showing fake profits and coaching his trades. Encouraged by initial returns, Dunlap deposited $1.2 million from January to March, emptied his 401(k) and savings, and saw his account balance falsely grow. When he tried to withdraw $395,000, he was blocked, revealing the scam. The FTC reports Americans lost $5.7 billion to investment scams last year.
