Cop Hopping Part 1: FOX13 Investigates troubled West Tennessee officer who kept switching jobs

SUMMARY: Fox 13 investigates Christopher Curry, a former officer who worked at seven West Tennessee police departments over three years. Despite multiple allegations, including theft, domestic assault, and reckless driving, Curry repeatedly switched jobs to avoid accountability. He was fired from several departments due to his criminal charges and policy violations. In 2024, after being indicted for aggravated assault, Curry was hired by a new department but was eventually descertified by the state. Curry is appealing the decision. The investigation highlights concerns about officers evading consequences by hopping from department to department. The report continues with more cases of similar incidents.

“Cop hopping” is when an officer jumps from one department to another after getting into trouble. FOX13 Investigates reviewed more than 100 pages of state records on former police officer Christopher Currie. Records reveal he has worked for at least seven police departments across West Tennessee since 2021. Those records also show he ran into legal trouble at least three times during that same span and was terminated from five of those departments.

Tennessee bill would ban masks for law enforcement following ICE roundups

Published

www.wkrn.com – Tori Gessner – 2025-07-02 17:04:00

SUMMARY: A Tennessee bill proposed by Rep. Justin Jones aims to ban law enforcement from wearing masks and requires visible identification on uniforms. The “Stop American Gestapo Act” responds to concerns about masked, plain-clothed federal agents, especially ICE, making arrests that fuel fear and confusion in immigrant communities. Advocates highlight risks of impersonation, harassment, and threats to public safety. Opposing bills by Republicans like Sen. Marsha Blackburn seek to protect agents’ anonymity to safeguard their families. Jones argues law enforcement should not operate anonymously and hopes for bipartisan support to prioritize safety over politics. The session resumes next January.

Granado, who came from Mexico seeking the American dream as a construction worker, has no criminal record, but ICE targeted him possibly after he submitted a G325 form to immigration authorities. Perez shared that the arrest, captured on a ring camera, felt like a harsh shock, as his father was treated like a criminal despite never having been jailed. Granado will be transferred to a detention center in Louisiana, and Perez vows to fight for his return.
