Community reacts to looming violence as summer begins in the Grand Strand
SUMMARY: As summer begins in the Grand Strand, the community reacts to recent violence including shootings and fights in Myrtle Beach and Little River. Despite incidents like a Memorial Day weekend shooting leaving 11 injured and ongoing police chases, many locals and visitors emphasize the need to stop the violence. Longtime vacationer Joe Baker notes this year has been the worst but remains committed to returning. Local Cleon Boyd suggests conflict resolution programs in schools to address youth violence. Business owners report little firsthand violence, appreciating strong police presence, which residents say enhances safety. Police continue investigating the Little River shooting and urge the public to share information.

Violence marred the kickoff of the summer season along the Grand Strand.
Late last month, 11 were injured and one was dead in a shooting on North Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach.
And last week, a police chase started in The Market Common with shots fired at officers during a chase.
Over this past Memorial Day weekend, 12 people were sent to the hospital after fights at the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest caused panic.
And on Saturday, 11 were injured in a Little River boat party shooting.
