Chef Jon “JD” Davis–The 2025 King of Mississippi Seafood
SUMMARY: Chef Jon “JD” Davis of City Grocery in Oxford, Mississippi, won the 2025 King of Mississippi Seafood title at the state’s annual seafood cook-off in Gulfport. Competing against six other chefs with a 50-minute time limit, Davis created a fried Mississippi snapper dish with crawfish-fried farro, Thai basil dressing, and a blood orange fennel salad. He plans a new, uniquely Mississippi-inspired dish for The Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans this August. City Grocery, a historic Oxford restaurant, updates its menu every six weeks, blending classic and modern inspirations. Chef JD’s King of Mississippi Seafood crown is now displayed at the restaurant.
