SUMMARY: Palm Bay has suspended its school zone speed camera program for the rest of the school year due to concerns about its accuracy, reliability, and transparency. This marks the second pause this year after complaints about glitches causing incorrect violations. The cameras, supplied by RedSpeed USA, detect vehicles exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph in active school zones and issue $100 tickets after review by a traffic officer. The intense strike caused the tree to explode and catch fire, scattering debris, and startling the residents inside. The storm produced over 1,000 lightning strikes, with lightning temperatures reaching around 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Fox 35’s meteorologist Laurel Blanchard advised avoiding open fields, metal, water, and especially staying under trees during thunderstorms. She emphasized the importance of heading indoors when thunder roars, as lightning can strike miles away from the storm. Fortunately, no one was outside during the strike.
