Busy summer travel season is fast approaching
SUMMARY: The busy summer travel season approaches with good news: airfares are lower than last year. Domestic tickets average $265, down 3%, the lowest since 2021, while flights to Europe dropped 14% to $847. Hotel rates remain steady at $237 per night, higher than pre-pandemic. Travelers save by booking Sunday-Monday stays and often prefer Airbnb to reduce costs. There’s growing interest in off-the-beaten-path destinations and shoulder season travel. Solo travel, especially among women (71%), is rising. Additionally, safety considerations are more important, influencing travel planning for nearly 60% of travelers, a notable increase from last year.
Wendy Gillette reports this year brings greater concerns about the economy for some, but airfares are a little bit lower compared to last year.

Musk forms new political party after split with Trump over president’s signature tax cuts law
SUMMARY: Elon Musk announced the formation of the America Party after breaking with President Donald Trump over his recent tax cuts law. Musk criticized the bill for increasing government waste and the national debt by \$5 trillion, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Despite previously supporting Trump and spending millions in the 2024 election, Musk now aims to use the new party to influence the 2026 midterms. While multiple groups claiming the America Party name have appeared, none seem authentic. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested Musk’s announcement might face opposition from his company boards urging him to focus on business instead.
