Busy summer travel season is fast approaching
SUMMARY: The busy summer travel season approaches with good news: airfares are lower than last year. Domestic tickets average $265, down 3%, the lowest since 2021, while flights to Europe dropped 14% to $847. Hotel rates remain steady at $237 per night, higher than pre-pandemic. Travelers save by booking Sunday-Monday stays and often prefer Airbnb to reduce costs. There’s growing interest in off-the-beaten-path destinations and shoulder season travel. Solo travel, especially among women (71%), is rising. Additionally, safety considerations are more important, influencing travel planning for nearly 60% of travelers, a notable increase from last year.

Wendy Gillette reports this year brings greater concerns about the economy for some, but airfares are a little bit lower compared to last year.

WHO members adopt a ‘pandemic agreement’ born out of the disjointed global COVID response
SUMMARY: The World Health Organization’s member countries unanimously approved a historic treaty to better prevent and respond to future pandemics, inspired by the COVID-19 crisis. The agreement ensures nations sharing virus samples receive tests, medicines, and vaccines, with up to 20% of these resources allocated to the WHO for poorer countries. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the treaty as a triumph of multilateralism. Namibia’s Health Minister Esperance Luvindao emphasized global unity to protect lives. However, the treaty faces challenges since the U.S. — a major vaccine funder — is not participating, and no penalties exist for non-compliance.

Epic Universe's grand opening calls for patience as crowds converge on Orlando
SUMMARY: Epic Universe, Universal Orlando Resort’s fourth park, is set to open Thursday, drawing huge crowds and significant traffic. As Orlando’s first major theme park since the ’90s, patience is advised during this busy period. Experts suggest using GPS routes through adjacent hotels like Stella Nova or Terra Luna for quicker access. The park, about four miles from Universal Studios, features its own rideshare drop-off and pickup areas, and connected hotels offer shuttles or exclusive entrances. A new roadway reduces traffic on International Drive. Expected to boost the local economy significantly, Epic Universe will increase visitors, benefiting infrastructure, safety, and schools through sales tax revenue.

Epic Universe, the fourth theme park at Universal Orlando Resort and the first major new park to open in the area since the 1990s, is expected to draw millions of visitors in its first year.
