Body of barge worker who fell into Mississippi River found by authorities

The body of a missing barge worker has been found by authorities.

Donny Mitchell, 50, fell into the Mississippi River on Feb. 7 near the Natchez Port in Adams County. The accident happened at appoximately 4:30 a.m. when Mitchell was attempting to climb a ladder onto a walkway in the area of the Buzzi Unicem USA terminal.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten told WLBT that Mitchell’s body was discovered Tuesday at 4:22 p.m. and has been turned over to the county coroner and transported to the morgue at Merritt Health Hospital.

Mitchell was a native of Clayton, Louisiana.
