Ask Caray: When will the toll bridges connecting Kentucky, Indiana be paid off?

SUMMARY: The toll bridges connecting Kentucky and Indiana—the Lincoln, Kennedy, and Lewis and Clark Bridges—will continue collecting tolls until their $2.3 billion project is paid off, currently estimated by 2053. Since tolling began in 2016, over $960 million has been collected, with Kentucky still owing $1 billion. Tolling is compared to a 40-year mortgage, with about a decade paid and decades remaining, including interest and maintenance costs. Tolls increase yearly on July 1. Future policymakers will decide whether to continue or remove tolls after payoff. Outstanding toll fees may lead to vehicle registration holds soon.

Published

www.wtvq.com – T.G. Shuck – 2025-07-21 15:54:00

SUMMARY: After a stormy weekend with flash flooding in central and eastern Kentucky, Monday was quieter but muggy, with isolated afternoon storms and highs in the mid-80s. By Tuesday, a stalled boundary moves south, allowing drier air and more sunshine, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s and heat indices near 100°F. Wednesday and Thursday will be hot and dry as an upper-level ridge builds, pushing highs into the low 90s and maintaining high humidity. Late week, scattered showers and storms return with another boundary, along with continued hot temperatures in the low 90s. Outdoor caution is advised during peak heat.

www.youtube.com – WLKY News Louisville – 2025-07-19 22:38:36

SUMMARY: Heavy rain and thunderstorms soaked the area Saturday, dropping 1 to 6 inches in parts of Jefferson County, southern Indiana, and Owensboro, causing flash flooding and water in some homes. While Saturday evening turned pleasant, the unsettled weather pattern continues into Sunday and Monday with isolated to scattered storms possible due to heat and humidity. A heat advisory is in effect for Sunday, with heat indices expected to reach 102–106°F. Monday may start wet with more storms. Afterward, conditions will dry out, but high temperatures in the mid-90s and triple-digit heat indices will dominate mid-to-late week.

Congress passes spending cuts, including $1.1 billion from public broadcasting

www.wnky.com – WNKY Staff – 2025-07-18 17:39:00

SUMMARY: House Republicans approved $9 billion in federal funding cuts proposed by President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), marking a legislative win. The cuts, passed via a rarely used budget law that bypassed a Senate filibuster, include $1.1 billion removed from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, affecting NPR and PBS, and about $8 billion cut from foreign aid programs. USAID suffered severe staffing losses, causing nearly 500 metric tons of emergency aid food to spoil. Critics like Rep. Morgan McGarvey warn that these cuts harm public education and national safety, while Speaker Mike Johnson indicated more cuts may follow.
