Army buddy ‘absolutely floored’ that Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Houston committed Bourbon Street attack
SUMMARY: People in Houston and Beaumont are shocked by Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s involvement in the Bourbon Street attack. Friends and family, including an old army buddy in Houston, are floored by his actions, as they knew him as a normal, upstanding individual with no red flags. Jabbar, a former soldier, had been in contact with his army friend about meeting in Houston, but the meeting never happened. Friends in Beaumont, where Jabbar grew up, are also in disbelief, expressing anger at whoever may have influenced him to commit such a violent act. They struggle to understand what led him down this path.
Everyone we’ve talked with who knew the Houston man behind the New Orleans attack said there were no red flags or radical behavior and they’re shocked by his actions.

2025 Texas Longhorns football preview: The running back room looks loaded
SUMMARY: The Texas Longhorns running back room is poised for a stronger 2025 season after injuries sidelined key players like CJ Baxter and Christian Clark in 2024. Baxter, returning healthy, is expected to lead alongside Quintrevion Wisner, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last year, and bruising freshman Jerrick Gibson. Depth is bolstered by promising recruits James Simon and Rickey Stewart Jr. The offense may gain new versatility with quarterback Arch Manning’s mobility. However, Texas must improve ball security after fumbling 26 times in 2024. Additionally, new running backs coach Chad Scott replaces Tashard Choice, bringing experience from West Virginia.

A former deputy under Ken Paxton, Reitz supports conservative litigation, especially against diversity and equity programs in schools, continuing Paxton’s approach. He defended Paxton during his 2023 impeachment and criticized Paxton’s critics as “low energy.” Reitz’s 2026 GOP primary opponents include Senators Joan Huffman and Mayes Middleton, both with strong conservative credentials. Reitz vows to fight the Biden administration if Democrats control the White House and emphasizes his readiness to continue Texas’s legal battles on conservative issues.
