SUMMARY: A large new resort and amusement park are under construction at Lake of the Ozarks, a popular Mid-Missouri tourist destination experiencing a real estate boom since 2020. The market surged as people sought year-round outdoor activities during the pandemic, leading to high demand, bidding wars, and many cash buyers. The commercial development includes a 400-room Marriott hotel, conference center, and a 25-acre waterfront amusement park with rides and lodging. Phase one is expected to open by summer 2025, with full completion by 2027. Additionally, plans are underway to redevelop the declining Osage Beach Outlet Mall, with construction possibly starting later this year.

Although the development has been delayed, Oasis at Lakeport, a massive mixed-use resort and amusement park, is currently under construction near the Grand Glaize Bridge along U.S. Highway 54.

www.ozarksfirst.com – Delaney Eyermann – 2025-08-13 14:27:00

SUMMARY: A Missouri resident has been diagnosed with a rare brain infection caused by Naegleria fowleri, a microscopic ameba found in warm freshwater like lakes and rivers. The infection, primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), is deadly but extremely rare, with fewer than 10 U.S. cases annually. The patient is in intensive care, and exposure is under investigation, possibly linked to water skiing at Lake of the Ozarks. Infection occurs when contaminated water enters the nose, damaging brain tissue. It is not contagious. To reduce risk, avoid water entering the nose during freshwater activities. Symptoms include headache, fever, nausea, and seizures.
