NASA Program Gives Three UM Students Opportunity to Design Satellite

SUMMARY: Four Mississippi college , three from the of Mississippi and one from University, are designing a CubeSat network through NASA's 2024 Mission Concept program. Led by Professor Mustafa Matalgah, the cohort aims to create a small, low-orbit satellite capable of faster communication using the Ka-band spectrum and machine learning techniques. They spent time at the Kennedy Center and will work in Albuquerque to complete their designs. The CubeSat Launch Initiative supports these projects to offer low-cost space access and reduced orbital debris. Successful designs will progress to production and eventual launch.
