Alabama Storms: Scary looking clouds, heavy downpours, and hotter days in the forecast
SUMMARY: Central Alabama experienced intense pop-up storms featuring ominous clouds and heavy rainfall, soaking several communities including Spring Lake and Mountain Brook, which saw up to two inches of rain. Meteorologist Jason Simpson explains these clouds, called “scud,” form where rain-cooled air masses collide and create low, rapidly changing clouds often mistaken for tornadoes. Tomorrow, fog will develop in Shelby and Jefferson counties, followed by scattered thunderstorms and isolated showers throughout the afternoon, with highs near 77°F. Continued wet soil may cause localized flooding and downed trees. After isolated storms Wednesday, dry and hotter conditions will return Thursday with more scattered storms expected.
