Once again, the Mississippi Gulf Coast wont be the home of a football state champion
SUMMARY: For the past four decades, no high school football team from the three southernmost counties in Mississippi has claimed a state championship, with the total victories for coast teams being less than four percent of the 223 state titles awarded since playoffs began in 1981. Only four schools from the region have won championships: Pascagoula, Moss Point, D'Iberville, and St. Stanislaus, with no coast team winning in the last 14 years. As the MHSAA state championship approaches, the Mississippi Gulf Coast will again be absent from the contenders, following Gautier Gators' recent defeat. Seven titles will be contested over three days at the University of Mississippi, marking the first instance of so many championships in MHSAA history.
