Palm Bay suspends school zone speed cameras again, this time through rest of school year
SUMMARY: Palm Bay has suspended its school zone speed camera program for the rest of the school year due to concerns about its accuracy, reliability, and transparency. This marks the second pause this year after complaints about glitches causing incorrect violations. The cameras, supplied by RedSpeed USA, detect vehicles exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph in active school zones and issue $100 tickets after review by a traffic officer. The city aims to improve the system to meet community standards before resuming. Violators can pay fines online, request hearings, or contact RedSpeed directly for assistance.

All roads out of the Florida Keys are closed due to brush fire
SUMMARY: All roads out of the Florida Keys are currently closed due to a large brush fire in South Miami-Dade, causing significant travel disruptions. Both US1 northbound and Card Sound Road in both directions are shut, leaving only southbound lanes open into the Keys. The fire began Thursday afternoon and has already burned hundreds of acres, with 25% containment reported. This is a repeat of similar closures from a fire just two months ago. The closures have led to heavy traffic backups and delays, frustrating travelers. Authorities, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service, are actively working to control the fire. Updates will continue as the situation develops.

Steve Maugeri reports the southbound lanes of the 18-mile stretch are open.
