SUMMARY: Heavy storms with locally heavy rain and strong wind gusts are forecast for St. Louis Sunday afternoon, starting around lunchtime and intensifying between 3 and 6 p.m. These conditions may lead to localized flooding, so residents should clear storm drains and gutters to prevent issues. Temperatures will drop to the low 80s during the storms, with overnight lows near 71 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The upcoming week will feature scattered afternoon thunderstorms with mostly dry periods. Highs will reach the low 90s midweek and upper 80s by Friday and Saturday, with overnight lows in the low to mid 70s.

2 killed in shooting at Kentucky church, suspect dead: Police

SUMMARY: Two people were killed and three others, including a Kentucky State Police trooper, were injured in Lexington, Kentucky, after a suspect engaged in multiple incidents culminating in a shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church. He then carjacked a vehicle and was tracked to the church, where he opened fire, killing two women (aged 72 and 32) and injuring two men. Police confronted and fatally shot the suspect at the church. The trooper is stable, and the motive remains unknown.

SUMMARY: A major MoDOT project in Springfield, MO, has closed Interstate 44 this weekend between Kansas Expressway and West Bypass to demolish the aging Melville Road overpass, part of a broader effort to rebuild and widen the freeway from Route 125 in Strafford to the James River Freeway. The highway is being expanded from three to six lanes with upgraded signage, lighting, sound walls, and median barriers. Additional 1960s-era bridges over Broadway, Grant, and National Avenues will also be replaced, causing future closures.
