SUMMARY: Dozens of St. Louis firefighters appeared in court seeking recognition and payment for long-awaited promotions the city has blocked. Despite passing rigorous tests and being on approved promotion lists, City Hall—and the previous administration—refused to acknowledge their earned titles, citing fairness concerns with the testing process. Fire Chief Denis Jenkinson supports these promotions but has been stopped politically. A bench trial is underway, with a judge set to decide the case that could resolve tensions affecting morale and impact about 40 open firefighter positions. The outcome may restore rightful promotions previously withheld due to political disputes.

Dozens of St. Louis firefighters showed up at a bench trial that began Monday, hoping to be paid for promotions they earned.
