130 cats found in Wildwood home that was target of previous welfare checks

SUMMARY: Sure! Please provide the content you would like me to summarize.

On the quiet Country Trails Court in Wildwood is a 6,000-square-foot home that was recently ruled by cats. It’s shown in pictures Carolyn Haydon obtained of her childhood home after being kept away for years. Pictures show things like a cluttered dining room, a staircase turned bookcase, and cats everywhere.

Haydon suspected it for months, but living in Virginia, she says she and other siblings were kept away by their elderly parents. She says her parents were influenced by someone living with them.

“We’ve been concerned for a long time about their mental well-being as well as the condition of the home,” she said. “That particular person said that the home was her safe space, and she did not want us in her safe space.”

Haydon started asking Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services to check on them beginning in May 2023.

“Her response was I’ve gone out and knocked several times, I have visited, nobody answers,” she said.

Exploring the vast, icy wonders of the Antarctic and Arctic

Published

fox2now.com – Ella Ho – 2025-08-18 16:30:00

SUMMARY: Scientists are conducting challenging research in the Polar regions, where extreme cold, high winds, and long periods of darkness make conditions harsh. Mark Seefeldt of the National Snow and Ice Data Center studies Arctic and Antarctic meteorology using weather stations, drones, and precipitation systems, with eight field seasons in Antarctica. He notes the region receives little precipitation, though snow is often blown by fierce winds. His team recently recorded snowfall in remote areas but faced ground blizzards and dangerous conditions requiring helicopter rescue. Despite the risks, Seefeldt says the vast, icy landscapes provide critical insight into Earth’s climate systems.

How can the sunset be later in Joplin than in Springfield? The answer may surprise you

Published

on

www.ozarksfirst.com – Tom Schmidt – 2025-08-18 09:17:00

SUMMARY: The last 8 PM sunset in Springfield occurs on August 18, varying nearby due to longitude, latitude, and elevation differences. Longitude affects sunset by about 4 minutes per degree; for example, Joplin (1.22° west) experiences sunsets nearly 5 minutes later, with its last 8 PM sunset on August 22. Latitude impacts day length: farther north cities like Des Moines have later last 8 PM sunsets in August despite quicker daylight loss, due to longer summer days from Earth’s tilt. Elevation influences sunset minimally—about 1 minute per 5,000 feet—but is negligible in the Ozarks. These factors combined explain local sunset time differences.
