Vicksburg’s Kimberly Nailor named 2023 Mississippi Parent of the Year

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has announced Kimberly Walker Nailor as the 2023 Mississippi Parent of the Year.

Nailor, a mother of two , was nominated by the Vicksburg-Warren School District and is described as a model parent who cares about her community and school district.

She is employed as the attorney of Vicksburg and always finds time to volunteer for the school district and the community. She has invested in finding to make the Vicksburg-Warren County community a better place for the of students.

Nailor's participation in various service-oriented activities and has helped the community be a better place for student development. She assisted financially in sponsoring and serving meals for football players before and practices. Due to a lack of allotted to the athletic budget, there was no money for football players to have meals.

8 schools in our area receive ‘Military Star Schools’ recognition

SUMMARY: Eight schools in the area have been recognized by the Mississippi Department of Education as “Military Star Schools” for their of military families and of service members. These schools include Lowndes Elementary and High Schools, New Hope Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, Aberdeen Elementary School, Annunciation Catholic School, and Columbus Christian Academy. Schools with this designation must have a dedicated school liaison for military families and professional for staff to meet the needs of military and families. The designation lasts for two years and was established by Governor Tate Reeves in February 2022.
