SUMMARY: The Transit Authority, CTA, has been dedicated to environmental sustainability by using low-emission vehicles since 2004 and introducing Mississippi's first fully battery-powered public transit vehicle in 2022. Their efforts to go green include transitioning their fleet from diesel buses to propane, hybrid electric, or pure battery electric vehicles, known as zero-emission vehicles. These alternative fuel vehicles reduce tailpipe emissions and CTA aims to decrease their carbon footprint. As post-pandemic ridership increases, CTA is committed to sustainability by partnering with electric transportation providers and utilizing solar panel bus shelters. They plan to retire 12 diesel buses and deliver 12 more environmentally friendly buses by the end of the summer.

Earth Day, the CTA way, is showing the community how public transportation can be environmentally friendly.
