Set those clocks: Daylight saving time returns this weekend

Daylight saving time returns to most of the United States this .

While you will lose an hour of sleep on Saturday night, you will be gaining an extra hour of sunlight in the afternoon for the next six months until Nov. 5.

Insurance Commissioner and Fire Marshal Mike Chaney is reminding to use the time change as an to test their smoke detectors and batteries.

“Use this time change as a reminder to test smoke alarms and replace batteries,” Chaney said. “Create an escape plan and make sure everyone knows where to meet outside of the home in case of a fire.”

According to the National Fire Protection Association, about three in five home fire deaths occur annually in properties with no smoke alarms.

The transition to daylight saving time will take place at 2 a.m. local time Sunday, so don't forget to set your clocks an hour ahead before going to bed Saturday night.

Mississippi House, Senate conferees discuss Medicaid expansion
