Victims of deadly Purvis tornado remembered
SUMMARY: After decades of searching, a group in Pervis, Mississippi, has found the mass burial site of victims of a deadly 1908 tornado. The Lamar County Historical Society has led the effort, with George Stevens and Ernestine Thompson playing key roles. Thompson's family members have long known the general location of the graves, but the exact site remained elusive until now. The group plans to continue researching the victims and possibly installing markers to honor them. Over 140 people lost their lives in the devastating EF4 tornado, and the community is finally able to pay tribute to their memory.
