Mississippi’s First Keith Haring Fitness Court Coming to Belhaven: “World’s Best Outdoor Gym”
SUMMARY: Mississippi communities are increasingly prioritizing health by promoting walkability, fitness amenities, and community engagement through initiatives like walking trails and gardens. In Belhaven Heights, residents aim to enhance local health with a new outdoor fitness center, selected by the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) for a Keith Haring Fitness Court®. This court, combining art and exercise, allows users to work out at seven stations in just seven minutes. The project faced delays but was successfully relocated to Belhaven Heights Park, linking it to local recreational trails. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for September 26 to celebrate this addition to the community.

Southern Miss Art Students Create Mural
SUMMARY: University of Southern Mississippi (USM) students created a ceramic mural titled “Magnolia of Hope,” inspired by their experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic. This 8-by-4 piece, featuring various figurines, will be dedicated on September 12 alongside the earlier mural “Destination Hub City.” Professor Allen Chen guided the project, helping students express their pandemic reflections through art. Collaborating with visiting artists, students crafted elements that symbolize resilience and community. Among contributors, Kayla Beeles honored her late father with a boat, while Bria Sims represented the solace of music. The mural embodies collective hope and shared experiences from these challenging times.

Hey Lucedale…You Look Fabulous! | Our Mississippi Home
SUMMARY: Lucedale gained attention last week when the reality show “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” aired an episode featuring a wedding at Anderson Oaks Venue. Filmed in mid-February, the episode showcased the marriage of Jaime Daughdrill, Whitney Way Thore’s newly discovered niece. Venue owner Melissa Anderson initially thought a producer’s inquiry was a scam but found it was a legitimate opportunity. The episode focuses on Whitney’s emotional journey and family dynamics, including the reunion with her long-lost sister, Angie. The wedding scene highlighted the venue’s charm while presenting Whitney’s comedic quest to ensure her father made the family photo on time.
