Here's how you can save some money
SUMMARY: This week, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by half a percentage point, potentially affecting personal finances. While this change may not automatically result in savings, it offers opportunities for individuals to reassess their financial situations. Many, like Miami resident Fabiani Crespo, struggle with high living costs despite earning a substantial salary. Investment banker Jim Cassell suggests using this rate cut to refinance loans, including student debt and mortgages, which can lead to significant savings. Homeowners could lock in lower mortgage rates, potentially saving thousands annually, while consumers should explore debt consolidation and negotiate lower credit card rates.
One day after the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates, CBS News Miami is exploring how the move can help you save money on loans, credit cards and mortgages.

SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida, causing significant damage, particularly in Sarasota, and is projected to have economic effects of about $30 billion, impacting both public and private insurance sectors. Former state Senator Jeff Brandis discussed the challenges of the ongoing insurance crisis, noting that private insurers could face a $25 billion hit, complicating rate reductions. In the political landscape, candidate Joe Saunders aims to challenge incumbent Republican Fabian Basabi in the House District 106 race. While surveying storm damage, Laura noticed a glint in the dirt, revealing the long-missing ring. SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton has resulted in at least 21 fatalities and caused extensive damage across Florida, issuing a record 126 tornado warnings in a single day. Over 1.1 million residents remain without power, prompting the deployment of 50,000 linemen for restoration efforts. Areas like Edgewater and Dand face significant flooding, exacerbated by ongoing issues. While the weather calms, the threat of rising rivers persists, complicating recovery efforts. President Biden has announced federal disaster assistance for affected counties, and local authorities employ measures, such as tiger dams, to mitigate future flooding risks. Many residents express concern over long-term solutions to recurring flood problems.
