GMM Poll: What’s best? Call or text?
SUMMARY: A recent WLOX poll on Instagram asked whether people prefer calling or texting. The results showed 71% of respondents prefer texting, citing convenience, while 29% still favor calling, especially for more in-depth conversations. The conversation touched on the evolution of communication from rotary phones to texting and email. Participants discussed the benefits of each method, with texting being quicker for simple tasks but calls adding a personal touch, particularly for occasions like birthdays. UPDATE: Hanshaw Road Bridge reopens
SUMMARY: The Hanshaw Road Bridge in Ocean Springs has reopened to traffic after being closed in March by state officials for necessary repairs. Jackson County funded the replacement and repair work. While crews are still reattaching water and sewer lines over the coming days, traffic is now able to move over the bridge again. However, these ongoing utility reconnections mean traffic may be reduced to one lane at times during the final stages of the repair process. The bridge reopening restores an important route for the Ocean Springs community after months of closure.
Over the next few weeks, work crews will install water and sewer lines on the side of the bridge.

Mississippi Senators call for end to Biden-era flood insurance premiums
SUMMARY: Mississippi senators have called for an end to Biden-era flood insurance premium hikes, citing widespread economic strain. Since the program’s rollout, premiums on about 84% of Mississippi flood insurance policies have increased, causing thousands of homeowners to abandon coverage. In a joint statement, senators demanded greater transparency from FEMA, warning that if Risk Rating 2.0 continues unchecked, more families will be forced to forfeit insurance, leading to economic strain on neighborhoods and risking community collapse. They stressed that “time is of the essence” to address the escalating premiums and protect vulnerable Mississippi communities.
Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith signed a letter that calls for halting further Risk Rating 2.0 premium increases and demanding greater transparency from FEMA.
