Laurel animal shelter may be forced to close its doors

Vehicle struck and killed man lying in the road, Alcorn County sheriff says
SUMMARY: A man in All Corn County died after being hit by a small SUV while lying in the road. Sheriff Ben Cwell identified the victim as Timothy Mackin, who was hit by a female driver while she was on her way to work. The incident occurred near 94 County Road 650 in the Union Center area around 5:45 am. The driver initially thought she hit a deer and returned with her husband to find Mackin. Authorities are investigating why Mackin was lying in the road.

4th arrest expected in death of 14-year-old boy
SUMMARY: Police in Ross have questions about where the victim, Cameron Horne-Crook, was killed. Evidence suggests he was shot outside the city and dumped in a neighborhood near abandoned homes. Teenagers aged 15-17 from Rankin County are facing adult charges for his murder. The suspects were joyriding and smoking marijuana before the shooting. A 14-year-old boy from Northwest Rankin Middle School was found shot to death in South Jackson. Police are searching for a fourth suspect and for a key piece of evidence. Murder charges could be upgraded to capital murder. Residents are concerned about juveniles being arrested for such a serious crime.
