Nearly $2 billion is up for grabs as Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots soar
SUMMARY: Two massive lottery jackpots totaling nearly $2 billion have captured the nation's attention. The Mega Millions prize stands at $1.1 billion, while the Powerball jackpot is at $800 million. The odds of winning these prizes are extremely low, with 1 in 302.6 million for Mega Millions and 1 in 292.2 million for Powerball. Winners should expect much smaller payouts than the advertised figures, as they are often paid out over 30 years through annuities. The games are played in multiple states, with profits funding state programs. The excitement around these record-setting jackpots continues to grow as drawings take place.
