JSU’s Tomekia Reed named Charlotte’s new head coach

Reed led Jackson State to their third SWAC championship and a spot in the during her six-year tenure. UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber praised Reed as a talented coach with a commitment to excellence. Jackson State thanked Reed for her , which included five consecutive regular-season titles and four SWAC Coach of The Year . Person of interest in homicide case arrested on unrelated charges

OSHA cites Hattiesburg poultry plant for more violations

SUMMARY: OSHA has cited a Hattiesburg poultry plant, Mar-Jac Poultry, for safety violations, inadequate access to toilet facilities, missing lockout tagout devices, and lacking machine guarding. These violations resulted in $46,553 in penalties. The plant was also under fire for the of a 16-year-old boy, Duvan Perez, who was killed at the facility in July 2023. Mar-Jac denied any wrongdoing, but Perez's filed a alleging negligence in ignoring safety regulations. OSHA had previously cited the plant in January 2024, and the Wage and Hour Division is conducting a child labor investigation.
