National Weather Service issues Elevated burn threat due to dry conditions.

The Hattiesburg area is experiencing a serve early cold weather snap as well as the potential for strong winds as the first freeze of the year makes its way through the pine belt area, according to the National Weather Service.

As a result of the windy conditions, there is an elevated fire danger threat and open burning is discouraged in several counties, officials said.
