Mississippi Aquarium releases 16 sea turtles after cold-stun recovery

SUMMARY: The Mississippi bids farewell to 16 endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles as they are released into the Mississippi Sound after five months of rehabilitation. The organization has been working for nearly four years to restore the and recovery of these animals. After being flown in from New England due to a cold stun , the turtles received medical care, full physical exams, x-rays, and blood work. Veterinarians monitored their progress closely, and ultimately 16 turtles were deemed healthy for release. The community gathered to witness the turtles being released, and some were seeing an ocean creature up close for the first time.
